Last Saturday, Daddy's co-workers decided to have a barbeque at a cabin up on the Front Range. We decided to go, but unfortunately we did not have good directions. It took two hours to find the cabin! We were so thankful once we found everyone.
After we finished lunch, the other teachers thought it would be a fun idea to go "geocaching". In case you have no idea what that is (we sure didn't!), it is basically high-tech treasure hunting using a GPS system. There are hidden geocaches all over the world that other hikers and thrill-seekers hide. The only rule is that once you find the geocache, you sign the log and put it back in its original hiding place. You are allowed to take an item from the cache, but you must leave a trinket behind. So since there just happened to be a geocache hidden about a mile away from the cabin, we set off into the mountains to find it.
We quickly learned that Coloradans are a little more "hard core" than we are used to. When they say we're going on a "hike", they mean "HIKE!" No nature walks here! This "mile" ended up being straight up the side of the mountain. Too bad Mommy only had flip-flops on! We were thankful for a chance to breathe once we made it to the top of the "hill".
Also, Coloradans are not wimps when it comes to weather. Mommy and Daddy got a little nervous when they saw the lightening and storm clouds just a few miles away. However, the folks with the GPS system marched on and since we are "directionally challenged", we trudged forward.
After we reached the spot where the GPS coordinates matched, the teachers spent a few minutes of searching and the geocache was found near the opening of a small cave. We won't show you where it is and wreck the fun...just in case you ever decide to come out here and give it a try yourself. We decided not to take a trinket from the cache, but instead left a free RedBox movie coupon. Hopefully someone will be excited about the "treasure" we left behind. In case you happen to have a GPS system or know someone who does and want to give this a try, you can go to www.geocaching.com. It was a lot of fun, got to see some beautiful landscape and it was great exercise. Happy treasure hunting!

We just learned about geocaching when we were in Seattle this summer. Appartently it is pretty popular up there too. I'm glad you had fun and it looks beautiful there! Julie, I can't believe you hiked a mile in flip flops- you just proved you are hardcore too!! TTYL :)

Ah, geocaching! My dad's side of the family is big into that. Glad to see you're getting out and having great adventures! And Ethan is getting cuter each time you post pictures! We miss you guys.
