On my side of the family, August is pretty much like Christmas time. In 25 days, we have 7 birthdays to celebrate. So let's begin with the first on the list, MARK!
This year, I was able to successfully surprise Mark with a date to Water World. I blind-folded him, dropped the kids off with baby-sitters, and drove five minutes to supposedly the biggest water park in the country (I personally have some doubts about that statement, but who cares).
It was such a blast, but I have no pictures to show for it. In my opinion, water and digital cameras don't mix. So just use your imagination...two middle-agers acting like teenagers, running from ride to ride, screaming our heads off and pretty much laughing the whole time.
Afterwards, we ran home, changed and went to Movie in the Park with our church. One of our friends got Mark a cake in the shape of a rainbow trout, with air-brushed scales and everything. It was quite the work of art...but I couldn't stomach it. When they chopped off the head and handed it to Mark, I was out of there!
Next up...my nephew DAKOTA (but he just got a phone call since he's in California). After him, it's GIGI and UNCLE LEIF (on the same day) followed by PA. Since Pa and Gigi came out to celebrate their birthdays in Estes Park, we actually got to drive up and spend the day with them.

Next we climbed back in the car and drove into Rocky Mountain National Park
We decided to stop at a scenic walking trail. Though it was pretty steep, Brooklyn insisted on walking by herself.

It took at least 20 minutes to walk a half a mile...but with two kids, what can you expect? It was was totally worth it in the end, though.
Brooklyn would not totally cooperate for this picture...she kept insisting on climbing all of the rocks. (Dobson's "The Strong-Willed Child" is next on my reading list)

Pa and Gigi returned to our house the next day, in time to celebrate Pa's birthday with a steak dinner and mud pie for dessert. (Notice the "2" candle...it was all we had!)
