After our time in Temecula, we headed back to San Diego. We had an ER adventure with Great-Grandma Vera, but it ended up not being too serious. Two days later, we headed up to Carlsbad to meet up with Mark's parents, sister Lori, brother-in-law Greg, and nephews Caleb, Carter, and Issac. We had a family party to celebrate Brooklyn's first birthday. My parents, sister and her family also came up for the fun day. We had lunch, ice cream cake, and a nice time in the pool. Ethan and Brooklyn had never met the Austin cousins before, so it was a treat for everyone.
After we spent one night, we headed back to San Diego. We relished the beach one last time, packed up all of our stuff, and headed back to Flag for the night. We enjoyed some yummy Greek food with Stephen and Jessica, played one last game of Carcassonne, and then hit the road. Finally, after 12 more hours in the car, we made it. Though we were cranky, exhausted, and dirty, there truly is no place like home!

Brooklyn loved her first taste of sugar!

(Clearly I'm no Martha Stewart, but I'm giving myself grace since I was still recovering from spending the night at the ER)
